متن کاملSystemic calciphylaxis presenting as a painful, proximal myopathy.
A renal transplant patient who presented with a painful, proximal myopathy due to systemic calciphylaxis is described. The myopathy preceded the characteristic skin and soft tissue necrosis. Systemic calciphylaxis should be considered in a dialysis or a renal transplant patient presenting with a painful proximal myopathy even in the absence of necrotic skin lesions.
متن کاملTumoral calcinosis and calciphylaxis presenting in a dialysis patient.
Tumoral calcinosis and calciphylaxis are uncommon complications of haemodialysis therapy and are associated with poor phosphate and calcium control. The use of calcium containing phosphate-binding agents in conjunction with high calcium dialysates may exacerbate these conditions by inducing a positive calcium balance. Despite their common aetiology, the two disorders are seldom reported to occu...
متن کاملCalciphylaxis Presenting with Various Symptoms: A Case Report
Calciphylaxis causes ischemia in multiple organs and skin ulcers owing to progressive calcification in small and medial arteries. It has a poor prognosis and often occurs in patients with hyperparathyroidism associated with end-stage renal failure and those undergoing hemodialysis. Here, we present a case of calciphylaxis associated with a wide range of symptoms, including lower thigh skin ulce...
متن کاملCalciphylaxis presenting in early chronic kidney disease with mixed hyperparathyroidism
Calciphylaxis is a disabling and life-threatening complication that primarily affects patients who are dialysis dependent. Reports have grown in the literature of cases occurring in those who have advanced chronic kidney disease (pre-end-stage renal disease) or in the setting of transplantation. There are also a few reports of cases occurring in those without any form of chronic kidney disease ...
